PASO President Mr. Mario Vazquez Raña met with a delegation of the Organizing Committee for the Games of Toronto 2015, led by its President Hon David Peterson and also included the Executive Director Mr. Saad Rafi Lambis Konstantinidis, Director of International and NOC relations Service. The President of the Pan American Sports Organization, Mr. Mario Vázquez Raña, met with Mr. Augusto Morán Nuques, recently elected President of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee.
In the fruitful meeting, in which Jimena Saldaña, PASO Secretary General and Reynaldo González, Executive Secretary, participated as well, important themes regarding the joint work between both organizations were discussed, such as the Pan American Olympic Solidarity Programs offered by PASO to all its member NOCs, among which the following may be highlighted: the High Level Technical Courses Program, the Continental Scholarships Program, the financial support provided to the NOCs and the Pan American Olympic Festival, an event that will be held in Mexico in the summer of 2014.
During his visit, Mr. Morán talked to Mrs. Saldaña about the details regarding the programs the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee is currently initiating and its integration to Pan American Olympic sport, which will benefit the young athletes of the Americas.
Mr. Morán thanked President Vázquez Raña for his concern regarding the current and future situation of the Ecuadorian Olympic Movement and PASO’s disposition to support the Olympic Committee in its efforts to prepare the country’s athletes towards the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The President of PASO congratulated Mr. Morán for the confidence deposited on him upon his election to carry out such an important responsibility. He offered the full collaboration and support of PASO and expressed his confidence that Mr. Morán will attain the unity and leadership that Olympic sport in Ecuador needs.
A delegation of the Peruvian Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of the XVIII Pan American Games “LIMA 2019”, held an important meeting with the President of the Pan American Sports Organization, Mr. Mario Vázquez Raña.
José Quiñones, President of the POC and Patrick Espejo, integrated the Peruvian delegation. In their report to update the main representative of PASO, they discussed the progress achieved in this first stage of the Games’ organization since the Assembly in Toronto in which they were awarded the site; the elaboration of the Master Plan for the organization of the Games in Lima, the integration of the Organizing Committee, the project for the construction and set up of the anti-doping laboratory, the sports program and other key issues regarding the continental event.
President Quiñones and Jimena Saldaña, PASO Secretary General, who together with the Executive Secretary, Reynaldo González, participated in the meeting, discussed the activities calendar in view of the upcoming PASO Executive Committee Meeting and the General Assembly, to be held in September 2014 in Mexico.
President Vázquez Raña, congratulated President Quiñones and the Peruvian Olympic Committee on the excellent work they are carrying out and the strict fulfillment of the agreements contracted with Olympic sport in the Americas. He reiterated the full support of PASO to face the great challenge ahead and ratified the confidence of the Olympic Movement of the Americas that they will know how to fulfill this great commitment.
