With the presence of the President of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), Dr. Julio C. Maglione and members of the Executive Committee, the one thousand days countdown to the opening of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games began.
“The Countdown” began last Saturday, October 29th, at the Parque Zonal Flor de Amancaes of the Zona de Tablada de Lurin at Villa Maria del Triunfo, in Lima, Peru.
Dr. Maglione, joined by members of the Executive Committee and the Technical and Coordination Commissions, indicated that “during these days we have been in Lima, we have felt the commitment that authorities have towards the Games: from the President of the Republic of Peru (Pedro Pablo Kuczynsky) to the people that have attended this One Thousand Days event”.
“I am certain that with everyone’s support, the Lima 2019 Games will be a great success”, underlined Maglione.
The PASO President highlighted the enthusiasm of the Villa Maria del Triunfo people and the great presence of media.
From his part, the President of the Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games (COPAL), Carlos Neuhaus, pointed out emotionally that “it is very important for the Games to have a venue as beautiful as Flor de Amancaes, which will be a training venue for various sport disciplines towards the Games”.
“Seeing how people support us, how everyone gets excited and is experiencing these Games makes me feel further committed and happy. These Games belong to everyone, these Games belong to Peru”, added Neuhaus.
At the event, more than a thousand residents of Villa Maria de Triunfo attended and were moved by the show staged and the messages of COPAL´s authorities.
In addition to Carlos Neuhaus, the following authorities were present: the major of Villa Maria del Triunfo, Carlos Canales; the president of the Peruvian Sport Institute, Saúl Barrera; the president of the National Paralympic Association of Peru, Luisa Villar and Olympic athletes like Rosario de Vivanco, Ricardo Duarte and Antony Ledgard.
Young soprano Stefany Castillo sang the national anthem of Peru, together with the “Orquestando” Orchestra of the Ministry of Education. Likewise, the “Angels” children choir performed, under the direction of Marita Cabanillas.
After the main authorities’ messages, the one thousand days countdown began at the Parque Zonal Flor de Amancaes.
