The president of the Bolivian Olympic Committee (COB), Marco Arze, informed that race walker Angela Melania Castro Chirivechz will be the flag bearer for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (August 5th thru the 21st).
“Angela was elected due to the number of sport achievements she attained, in addition, she qualified for the Games on her own merits in the 20 km race walking event”, Arze said.
Castro, 23, was the only candidate to be flag bearer and the COB’s board unanimously accepted this option.
One of her most outstanding achievements is the national record in the 20km race walking event, with one hour, 30 minutes and 33 seconds, obtained at the World Championships held in early May in Rome, Italy.
The previous record of Geovana Irusta prevailed for twelve years, achieved in 2004 at the Challenger held at La Coruña, Spain. She registered 01h32’06”. Another achievement of Angela is that she won the South American Race Walking Cup in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in early April. (LARAZON.COM)
